Upon looking at the video snippet of Kanye West’s song “Power,” I expected it to be the typical puffed up West video full of arrogance, self-absorption and greed. For Kanye fans the "Louis Vuitton Don" does not disappoint and the vid is just as I anticpated.
However, as the video played I was at an utter loss for words at the blatant blasphemy contained in this so-called piece of entertainment. However, how much do you want to bet that there are “saved”(Psalm 12:8) people who see “nothing wrong” with it or in the effort to still hold on to their love for secular music will use the robotic excuse “it’s just entertainment.”
Well, what I saw in “Power” was more than “entertainment” it was Kanye’s FLAT OUT declaration that “he is god” and wants to be worshipped(Isaiah 14:13) (like most hip hop “artists” he refers to himself as god and addresses fellow hip hop heads as such—New Age). Not to mention the fact that the video is laced with all types of masonic symbolism.
In any case, the declaration is rather Luciferian in nature. To review, if you remember Satan was once Lucifer, he was the second in command to God and was in charge of the music or the worship and praise in Heaven.
But because of his beauty, he became arrogant and wanted to become God rather than just worship him. He got caught up and desired to be an object of worship rather than the worshipper, so he tried to exalt himself as god and as a result he was expelled from Heaven(Isaiah 14) and has been roaming the earth seeking who he may devour(1 Peter 5:8) ever since.
Satan’s power over music has not changed and his desire to be worshipped has not either. Over the centuries from biblical times up until now people have been Luciferian. Their focus is always about self-glorification, self-gratification and the desire to be worshipped, the constant object of attention(definition of Luciferianism).
Kanye and his peers are no different. Even though we may not realize it, many of us have or do carry this trait. However, in Christ it is no longer about us we are to die to self(1 Corinthians 15:31), old things have passed away(2 Corinthians 5:17) and we are to become new with transformed minds(Romans 12:2). Yet, numerous church folks in their desire to hang on to the world and worldliness(1 Corinthians 15:33) get all too excited when a secular artist mentions anything about Jesus or angels in their music.
We get so excited in fact that we will “praise dance” right in the church to these very songs not even realizing that we are not giving praise to the true and living God, but to the god of this world Satan thus bringing in the spirit of antichrist right into the church. No wonder some churches have so much drama going on, the powers of darkness are given permission to roam freely in what is supposed to be God's house.
For example, in the song “Jesus Walks”, (in my “spirit of stupid” days I liked that song) I thought that Kanye was giving praise to the Lord and Savior, but instead he was glorifying his own dirty deeds and that of others basically declaring that Jesus will walk with him and just “watch and smile” as he is doing all of this stuff(Galatians 6:7).
Kind of like Jesus is just some regular homie around the corner who would not require of him what he would require of everyone else: repentance, righteousness, holiness and the admission that he is a sinner in need of salvation.
Yet, Yolanda Adams replete with a gospel choir dressed in white, would sing this very song with him at The BET awards show a few years back.
Then in the same year at the Grammys, with the support of Southern gospel group, the Blind Boys of Alabama and a choreographed number where some “saints” were “getting happy” on the church inspired set, Kanye ends the number by being “resurrected” a pair of (fallen) angel wings propped up behind him.
How many of us (including myself) thought that Kanye must be “down with Jesus” if he has on angel wings, sings about Jesus and performs with gospel greats likes Adams and the Blind Boys of Alabama? Wrong!
Again, it’s time for us as the body of Christ to study that word--apart from our pastor--to get to know that word and live that word because if we did we would see that Kanye and other people(ourselves included) who have had us fooled into believing that they are “saved” are “trees” who don’t bear the fruit that matches up with one who claims to belong to Jesus.
We can’t get so excited, lose all common sense whenever we hear one of our favorite secular artists mention Jesus or something about an angel. It’s a good chance they are not singing anything that is about Christ, but antichrist in nature(1 John 2:22-23).
